Fluff Story
The 2nd in an 'Eavesdropper' series.
"You said this would be the last time, Bobby."
"Just one more, pul-lease? This will be the last time,
I promise. I love the way you do that little thingy. Can't
you teach me how to do that?"
"Bobby, you're either born with it, or you're not. Being
a woman, I was. I'll leave you to imagine the rest."
Sam paused outside the door, hearing voices inside. He took
a deep breath, then lifted his hand to knock, just as his
mother taught him.
"Come on, just one more," Bobby's voice said. "I
really like the way you do that."
"I want to go now," Charlotte's voice sounded very
irritated. "You said if I played with you one more time,
we could go. I played, you're done, let's go."
Sam gulped and lowered his hand.
"You liked it, you know you did."
"And your point is?"
"You know you want to."
"I want to do a lot of things. Oh, okay, if it will
get us out of here any faster."
Should he knock? Eavesdropping was wrong, his mother would
have a fit if she knew he was listening, but their conversation
had drawn him in. He started to moved away from the door,
feeling guilty.
"So, this time, with or without?"
"How about something new?"
"Whatever, just no whips or chains. I don't have time
for that."
"I was hoping you'd say that. Can I go first?"
"If you really want to."
"You might pick up a few pointers from me."
"I doubt that. Logan is much better at this than you
are."
"That sounds like a challenge."
"Only if you want it that way."
Sam looked up and down the corridor. Seeing no one, he edged
closer to the door. What was going on in there, anyway?
"You're not bad."
"Thanks. I've been practicing."
"It shows."
"Thanks, really. It means so much from an expert."
"I don't think I like your tone of voice."
Sam's eyes widened, he brushed up against the door.
"What was that?"
"What was what? You're not trying to get out of this,
are you? You started it."
"I know, but I don't want anyone knowing what we're
doing."
"Like I want it to get around, too? Just focus on what
you're doing."
"Sorry. Is this how its done?"
"Just loosen up your hands a little more, it won't fall
if you hold it lightly. You really aren't bad, but don't get
ego'd out on me."
Sam started to breath again, but his jaw dropped. He couldn't
believe what they were saying. He began to feel a little warm.
"Hurry up, will you?"
"I'm almost there."
Then a loud sigh,
"Finally! You've got to work on your speed, Bobby."
"Okay, okay. It's your turn, Storm."
Sam almost choked on his tongue. Storm?!
"This is very hard, Bobby."
"That's what makes it so much fun, 'Ro."
Sam was sweating now, all thoughts of discovery gone.
"'Roro?"
"Yes, Remy?"
Oh dear God, Gambit was in there, too? Sam's face reddened
even more.
"You're much better den I t'ought you'd be."
"Thank you, Remy."
"Can I play wi' you next?"
"Of course. Robert and Charlotte are supposed to be
leaving."
"Hey, there's always room for more to play."
"Do you want me to stop?"
"No, don't stop now. He can join in when we're done."
Sam wiped his forehead, sweating lightly in the sudden heat
of the hallway.
A yell of triumph from Bobby startled him.
"How did I do?"
"'Ro, what can I say," Bobby's voice sounded breathless.
"You were great. Let me have another turn?"
"Not on your life, SnowBoy," Charlotte's voice
sounded determined. "We could spend hours doing this,
but I want to get out of here sometime today. If Logan finds
out I was down here at all he'll blow his stack."
"You could handle him," Bobby pleaded.
"Let me rephrase that. If Logan finds out I was down
here playing with you, he'd get mad he wasn't invited, then
he would take over and none of us would get out of here until
he was satisfied. You know how much it would take to satisfy
him."
"Oh, yeah. Last time I didn't get to sleep all night.
Maybe later?"
"Maybe later."
The sounds of footsteps gave Sam a chance to run and hide.
He stepped in a nearby closet as the other door opened and
closed, Charlotte's voice chewing Bobby out for making her
wait fading down the hall.
He left the closet and hurried to the elevator, intent on
getting to his room as fast as possible.
He met Logan in the upstairs hallway.
"Y'seen Charlotte?" Logan asked him.
"Uh, no, Ah didn' see anyone," Sam stammered out.
"She was s'posed to go into town, but the car's still
here."
"Ah think Bobby's with her." Why'd he have to go
and say that?
Logan's gaze came back around to pin him down. "Bobby?
She was waitin' for Drake?"
"Uh, Ah'm not sure."
"Damn. He got her back down there, didn' he? I'm gonna
tear him up this time." Logan stomped down the hallway.
"If I don' get to join in, ain' no body playin' with
my wife..."
Sam went into his room and locked the door. Sitting on the
edge of the bed, he reconsidered his decision to join the
X-Men.
"So y'playin' wi'out me," Logan said to Storm and
Remy.
They both looked up guiltily. "Jus' tryin' to get in
some practice," Remy said.
Logan sat down next to Ororo. "An' when was she gonna
tell me 'bout everyone practicin' wi'out me?"
"You said Dungeon Escape was a useless computer game,"
Ororo reminded him, moving over so he could take a turn.
"It ain' real, but I can beat Char at it an' I like
the way she pays out on her bets. She ain' got my reflexes."
He hit the start key. "Who's first?"
End.
