The Sun Will Shine Again

Chapter 7

Remy awoke with a scream and sat straight up in the bed. Feathers were flying all around the room, he had ripped his pillow to shreds. The sheets where tangled around his legs like snakes, he was covered in sweat, but he was freezing. And he had no idea what had made he wake up like this, the dream having already faded.

Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm himself. The woman next to him was trying to calm him down with soft words and sweet kisses. Her face was drown back in concern, and he leaned over to kiss her. Her lips still had the lingering taste of cherry bounce on them. He pushed her black hair away from her shoulder, and began living a trail of kisses down her neck. "I 'kay, Juliet." He whispered between kisses. "Jut' a bad dream is all."

He felt her stiffen under him, he lifted his head, and was promptly slapped across the cheek. "Where do you get off calling me 'Juliet'? My name's Candy!"

It was cold. That was all, just cold. There was no wind, no clouds in the sky, nor was there a moon or stars. Only the giant and the unconscious boy were there. No one else. There was no sound, and no light. It was just cold.

The ground ended in a jagged cliff a few feet away. The giant pushed the car those few feet, then watched as it plummeted to the bottom of the gorge. It rolled three times, four, five, then came to a rest. It was no more then a second later when the gas tank caught fire and the whole thing blew up, catching a few trees and some dead grass a flame with it.

The giant could feel the heat rising from the flaming mass, and as the fire licked and spat, a breeze came up, spreading the flames more over the dead foliage. Now there was sound, and there was light. And soon there would be people. But no one would know about the giant or the unconscious boy he now carried in his arms. No, they would be long gone before any people came.

"Dat wasn' de plain, Essex!" Belle said, her voice barely above a whisper, as the girl collapsed.

"Perhaps not. But it is now." Sinister picked the girl up and started away.

"Non, I take de girl! You n't do what you say you would, so I take her!"

"And what will LeBeau say when you return with his daughter, and she tells him you were responsible for her mother's death?"

Belle's heart seemed to stop. She had wanted revenge, had wanted to make the woman suffer, but not like this! This ... this was beyond suffering! And a piece of her had wanted to whisk the girl away before she'd seen her mother's torn and bleeding body. But she had stopped herself from reaching out to the girl.

She didn't care what happened to her. She didn't!

But if Remy ever knew...

Somewhere, deep inside her, she really did love Remy LeBeau. And she didn't want to know what he would do if he found out she had helped in the murder of his mistress.

"Fine." She said, defeated. "Take her. But don' ever let her come back t' N'Awlens. She don' belong dere no more." She took a step up to the child and looked at her. She was asleep and looked peaceful, except that her face was covered in her mother's blood. Her clothes were torn and muddy, she looked like she'd been crawling though the sewers. She smelled like it too. Her right hand was clinched tight, a thin gold chain slipped between her fingers.

"Wait." Belle said to Sinister as she reached out and opened the girl's hand. The gold was indeed a chain. A heart shaped locket was on the chain, and Belle opened it. Inside was a picture of Juliet on one side and Remy on the other. Belle pulled the chain from Lizzie's hand, and placed it around her neck.

The girl had nothing now. No family, no home. And it was all because Belle had wanted revenge. Letting her keep the necklace was the least she could do.
